Ever since the Department has made rapid strides in both teaching and research, and has made its presence felt at the national and international levels. Though the mandate of the Department is to promote science and technology in all fields of study, special emphasis is laid on the themes of  Natural Plant Products, Phytochemistry, Plant Tissue Culture, Biodiversity Evaluation, Environmental Protection and Plant Growth Regulation
